Common questions about our orchestra program:
Q. Can my child play sports or participate in extra curricular activities and be in the orchestra?
A. YES, YES and YES!!! We believe that students should be well rounded, and understand that they have multiple interests. Communication is key when taking on multiple activities, make sure to communicate with your director and coaches when you anticipate a conflict.
Q. How do I find a private lesson teacher?
A. We have several highly qualified private lesson teachers right here in Foxboro. Our teachers have many years of professional experience in both education and performance. Feel free to ask Ms. Tedoldi, or any of the other music teachers in Foxboro for teacher recommendations. Our private teachers in Foxboro work closely with the Foxboro Music Staff to meet the needs of your child to ensure their success! Also, click on the "Private Lessons" link on the homepage to contact our teachers directly. We can also recommend an experienced high school student for younger students who are new to lessons, and may not be ready to study with a professional teacher.
Q. When do you recommend that my child begin private lessons?
A. Students can begin at any age. Lessons are a great reinforcement, and often time provide even more motivation to practice! The one-to-one instruction will allow the lessons to cater to the specific needs and learning styles of each child. If your child is planning to continue playing in high school or is interested in taking auditions, lessons are highly recommended.
Q. Should I rent or purchase an instrument for my child?
A. When students are first starting out, I highly recommend renting an instrument for your child. Most students will go through 2 or 3 different sizes of instruments before growing into a full size instrument. The sizes are meant to make your child feel comfortable and successful. An instrument that is too large can be frustrating, and even lead to injury (tendonitis, strain, etc...) We recommend renting from www.acousticstringsofnewengland.com I caution against purchasing instruments off of the internet or from non-music stores (ie. Walmart, Target, etc...)- these instruments tend to be unreliable in quality and sound. If you would like help with purchasing an instrument, I am happy to assist along with our private lesson staff.
Q. How often should my child practice?
A. Practicing is meant to reinforce skills and concepts. Just like math and reading, playing an instrument takes regular practice. Students who are practicing their skills on a regular basis, will progress at a much faster rate and will have a positive and rewarding musical experience. Students should be playing their instruments outside of school, 4-5 days a week.
